The worst firing mistake I’ve ever seen:
I placed a sales candidate at a $20 million plastic packaging company years ago.
After just one year, she brought in an astonishing $5 million in brand-new business.
(Yes, I know… I often talk about how hiring Sales people rarely results in immediate business, but this was one of the rare ones)
For anyone who struggles with math, that’s a 25% increase in revenue.
Impressive, right?
Well, the newly hired CEO apparently wasn’t great with numbers.
He decided that $5 million in new business wasn’t enough and fired her.
Less than a year later, that same CEO was out the door.
And the new CEO?
He called me, practically begging me to convince the candidate to come back.
Moral of the story?
If you don’t understand the numbers, you shouldn’t be making hiring or firing decisions based on them.
